Van Norden Kayakers - G. LamsonLandmark Deal for Royal Gorge
The Truckee Donner Land Trust and The Trust for Public Land have reached an agreement to purchase the 3000 acre Royal Gorge property at Donner Summit after a proposed 950-home development at the site went into foreclosure. The Land Trust has been looking forward to this day for the last 20 years. This is the best opportunity in a generation to protect all of Royal Gorge's remarkable meadows, peaks, forests, streams and lakes. (photo - Van Norden Kayakers, courtesy George Lamson.)

NFARA became involved with the development issue on Donner Summit in 2006. Most of the proposed development would have been in the North Fork American River watershed, including dams on MacKay and Serena Creeks. We applaud the efforts of the Truckee Donner Land Trust and are excited about this landmark deal. We urge everyone who treasures the Donner Summit area to support this effort.

December 20, 2012 is the deadline to raise $13.5 to complete the project. Go to www.tdlandtrust.org for information.

There is a nice article in The Union.
And a good article in the San Francisco Chronicle.
